Water/Wastewater

As wastewater treatment facility design specialists, our engineers developed an approach that minimized cost and expedited project schedule to take advantage of a favorable bidding climate to help Encina Joint Powers Authority improve secondary clarifiers. Our engineers work extensively designing water system infrastructure, including a 5 MG reservoir with a two-zone booster pump station and three separate off-site waterline pipes, to help the City of Coachella respond to its rapidly growing population. Our engineers specialize in trenchless technologies as a cost-effective, non-intrusive approach to installing new or rehabilitating existing pipelines. We used trenchless technology for a Valley Sanitary District project involving a 54-inch HDPE casing pipe that needed to be completed in a tight frame through an alignment that included Interstate-10 and storm drain channels. The project was completed on time and set a record for longest directional drill installation of its size. Our environmental planners worked with the developer on a six-year effort to successfully permit the country's largest seawater desalination facility with ocean outfall in Carlsbad, CA. The process concluded with a rigorous 80 hours of public testimony at 15 hearings. The results set the bar for many complex environmental issues for California desalination projects. We are providing environmental planning for 3 other California seawater desalination projects. We're helping Goleta Sanitary District with construction management on its $50 million wastewater treament plant upgrade. The project includes a new biofilter and secondary clarifiers; new sludge tanks and flow equalization tank; and upgraded employee facilities. Our engineers and environmental planners helped Yucaipa Valley Water District plan and design recycled water infrastructure and a 15-mile gravity brineline. As experts in complex linear projects, we coordinated involvement of multiple stakeholders, including utilities, cities, business, residents and regional agencies. In water-strapped California, developers are required to establish proof of sufficient water resources as a prelude to development. For a 20,000 acre private ranch, our hydrogeologists conducted a groundwater supply investigation to evaluate options for sustainable development or opportunities to augment municipal water supplies. Our biologists, native habitat specialists and engineers are part of the team helping the San Diego County Water Authority with the tallest dam raise project in the United States. When completed the 220-foot San Vicente Dam will be 117 feet higher, increasing the reservoir storage capacity by an additional 152,000 acre-feet of water. (Dam is pictured prior to start of construction that is currently underway). We provided engineering, environmental and construction management services to help the City of Chula Vista plan, design and install a 15-mile sewer pipeline extension with an alignment through a nature preserve and the city center. Our team worked with the city and multiple stakeholders to design an approach to minimize long-term impacts to the preserve and to avoid disruption to the heavily populated area.

For more than 30 years, Dudek has helped California’s water and wastewater agencies develop and implement cost-effective programs to improve the function and efficiency of their facilities, achieve regulatory compliance and maintain excellent customer service.

Our engineering and environmental professionals often team to help improve day-to-day operations, achieve energy efficiency and maintain long-term cost savings. As contract manager for several water/wastewater agencies in California, we understand the industry’s facility, operational and regulatory issues.

We value long-term relationships with our clients. We enjoy working with agency staff to improve their facilities and operations, providing our clients with planning, design, environmental permitting, construction support, operations and contract staffing services as-needed to help deal with today’s limited budgets.
