Municipal

More than 40 California public agencies have used our environmental, engineering and construction management extension-of-staff services to cost-effectively manage fluctuating workloads and access specialty expertise. One typical assignment is serving as capital improvement program manager for the City of Vista’s 5-year, $117-million sewer enhancement project (pictured). Our urban foresters operate one of California’s most diverse urban forestry practices providing management planning and arboricultural services to numerous public agencies. We help the City of Irvine manage more than 64,000 trees (pictured). Our construction managers specialize in representing California municipal agencies on capital improvement projects, such as for Encina Joint Powers Authority’s treatment plan upgrades and new headquarters. Our construction managers quick access to our environmental and engineering staff means immediate advice on unforeseen issues that can arise during construction. Our engineers designed a bioswale for the City of Mission Viejo to provide a low-impact, natural treatment approach to treat low-flow stormwater before it enters an adjacent creek. Our biologists and native habitat professionals are experts at designing, planning, constructing and managing native habitat restoration projects that receive on-time sign-off from resource agencies. For a San Diego wastewater project, we combined mitigation requirements from three projects to a single site to provide a better overall habitat enhancement and revegetation program. We provided the City of Carlsbad with environmental permitting, habitat mitigation/restoration and construction management for The Crossings municipal golf course located on an environmentally-constrained 400 acres and surrounded by a 25,000 acre Habitat Management Plan preserve. Habitat Restoration Sciences, a Dudek company, provides on-going maintenance for coastal sage scrub habitat and riparian wetlands. Our LEED-certified engineers designed sustainability improvements for a City of La Quinta park to include low-impact design (LID) features such as permeable parking lot paving, bioswales and drought-tolerant landscaping.

California’s municipal agencies are more challenged than ever by increasing public demand for services, growing regulatory constraints and seriously restricted budgets.

Maintaining in-house technical expertise to meet these challenges is extremely difficult for most agencies, considering today’s fluctuating workloads influenced by an unpredictable economy, funding and regulations.

To support our clients’ technical staffing needs, we have accumulated specialized planning, environmental, regulatory, engineering and construction support professionals who work daily with municipal agencies’ staff, gaining insight and expertise to get through the next crunch.

Whether working on a specific project or serving in an extension-of-staff role, our professionals recognize that municipal clients want innovative ways to improve efficiencies and lower costs while maintaining excellent service and avoiding regulatory pitfalls.
