Energy

We provide on-call environmental planning services to the California Public Utilities Commission on a wide range of projects ranging from large-scale, linear transmission lines to a proposal to inject natural gas into a gas field located 3,800 feet below the earth's surface. Our environmental planners developed the EIR/EIS for the largest wind farm ever proposed in San Diego County. Located on 25,000 acres, the project also includes a proposed substation and gen-tie project. The EIR/EIS considered more than 40 alternatives developed during the public scoping and carried forward 12 project alternatives for full analysis. Our environmental planners provide environmental due diligence, planning and entitlement work for renewable enrgy project sites throughout California. We help developers quickly, cost-effectively and comprehensively evaulate site suitability from environmental constraints and permitting perspective. As on-call biologists for Southern California Edison for many years, Dudek staffers have worked on assignments as diverse as biological studies for major transmission projects; mitigation compliance and permitting oversight for substations; and hazard tree removal support for the bark beetle infestation in the San Bernardino mountains. When a new solar power facility in the desert needed an increased recycled water supply, our engineers helped the local wastewater treatment plant upgrade from secondary treatment to tertiary effluent suitable for unrestricted recycled use. Approximately 200,000 gallons a day will be used for construction and, with further reverse osmosis treatment, for cleaning the solar equipment.

We help our traditional and renewable energy clients with permitting, environmental processing and documentation, site engineering, land entitlement and construction monitoring.

Renewable Energy

We regularly assist renewable energy developers navigate California’s stringent environmental regulations using our long-established relationships with county, state and federal resource agencies. We understand these agencies’ regulations and expectations and develop appropriately tailored approaches for each unique project. We strive to respond expeditiously to environmental issues raised during the permitting process to get the necessary documentation completed.

Public Utilities

For more than 10 years, the California Public Utilities Commission has selected Dudek environmental teams to prepare CEQA/NEPA documentation for large electrical and natural gas transmission facilities. We have worked closely with the California Public Utilities Commission, California State Lands Commission, U.S. Bureau of Land Management, federal and state wildlife agencies, and California utility companies to understand and implement the measures necessary to obtain environmental approvals, permits and public acceptance, as well as to assure legally defensible documents.
