Biological Services
A land developer needs to know if a feature will inadvertently attract a sensitive plant or animal, causing unintended problems for future development.
Multiple stakeholders discussing regional conservation want to know what land uses are compatible with long-term preservation of sensitive species.
The link between these two projects is biological services. From initial project site selection to post-development revegetation and monitoring, biological services are entwined with nearly every facet of environment-related business.
Dudek biologists provide the following services:
CEQA and NEPA Processing
Evaluating potential project locations to determine the least environmentally sensitive area can often locate the most cost-effective location. Comprehensive biological resources and impact analysis reports incorporate general surveys and vegetation community mapping; GIS studies using GPS, aerial photography and topographical mapping; and jurisdictional wetland delineation for areas covered by state and federal regulations.
The CEQA and NEPA preparer uses the reports to write the biological section of the document. Additional biological services for CEQA and NEPA may be required if federally-listed species or wetlands are impacted.
Conservation Planning & Resource Management
Dudek biologists research and prepare regional conservation plans for land uses compatible with long-term preservation of sensitive species. The regional plan is often followed by sub-area plans outlining a particular jurisdiction’s responsibilities. Dudek biologists assist in species management by researching and writing specific management plans and conducting species-specific monitoring activities and habitat enhancement activities.
Attractive Nuisance Determination & Prevention
Dudek biologists work on transportation, utility transmission and development projects to evaluate attractive nuisance risk and prevention. Attractive nuisances are project features or enhancements that could inadvertently attract sensitive plants or wildlife to an area. Once present, these species may hinder maintenance or planned uses and may cause a future unintended
environmental constraint
.
As-needed & Extension-of-Staff
In an as-needed or extension-of-staff role, Dudek's environmentalists provide biological and construction monitoring and reporting per MMRP and regulatory permit requirements. Additionally, we provide technical studies and services as-needed for environmental review and documentation of specific projects.
Dudek's biological services (SIN 899-1) are available through the GSA Federal Supply Schedule (Contract #GS-10F-0200S).
