Habitat Restoration

Habitat restoration and revegetation play a critical role in compensating for the biological impacts of construction projects for land use development, transportation, and water and sewer projects.

However, habitat restoration faces two challenges.

First, habitat restoration specialists must identify disturbed land that is suitable for mitigation; determine the appropriate habitat type the land can support; and design a project that releases the ecological forces present on the site to achieve the desired mitigation goal.

Second, habitat restoration specialists must contend with the complexities of construction and a five-year timeframe for successful habitat restoration to become self-sustaining.

Dudek’s specialists have designed and implemented successful habitat restoration projects throughout Central and Southern California by applying their knowledge of plant ecology, biology and biological conservation planning, ecological restoration, landscape architecture, and horticulture.

By creatively evaluating a site for environmental constraints and opportunities, the team can develop conceptual mitigation (habitat restoration, revegetation and/or enhancement) strategies incorporating biological expertise, horticultural practicality and current restoration techniques. Design strategies focus on site-specific ecology coupled with project constructability and long-term sustainability using cost effective measures. By indentifying critical path issues based upon their experience, design team members can effectively manage schedules and budgets.

Habitat restoration services include:
  • Revegetation master planning with GIS interactive database
  • Conceptual mitigation plan preparation for wetlands, uplands, and sensitive plant and animal species
  • Habitat restoration construction document preparation (grading, irrigation, and plant installation plans and specifications)
  • Construction and long-term biological monitoring

Dudek's habitat restoration and revegetation services (SIN 899-1) are available through the GSA Federal Supply Schedule (Contract #GS-10F-0200S).
