Balancing Urbanization and Open SpaceChallenge: Faced with balancing urbanization with its legacy of land stewardship, Rancho Mission Viejo Company needed an environmentally-conscious plan to address the community’s needs as well as regulatory requirements.Project Scope: Dudek provided conservation planning services for a Natural Community Conservation Program (NCCP) in a 130,000 acre region of southern Orange County.Resolution: In support of the effort, Dudek was the primary conservation planning and environmental consultant for NCCP, environmental impact report (EIR) and environmental impact statement (EIS) preparation. Key aspects of the planning process included compliance with reserve design goals and objectives established by the state NCCP guidelines as well as development of species conservation strategies and an adaptive management plan.
