Managing a Large-Scale Sewer Interceptor Project for Chula Vista

Challenge: With plans for a major sewer interceptor extending into other vicinities and potentially disrupting heavy traffic areas, the City of Chula Vista needed to examine the environmental impact of the proposed project.

Project Scope: Dudek completed a program environmental impact report and served as the biological construction monitor once the project was underway.

Resolution: Involving over 55,000 linear feet of open cut gravity sewer near multiple tributaries and developed areas, the City of Chula Vista’s Salt Creek sewer project required an examination of the impact to the environment, roadways and the community residents. Dudek conducted this analysis, working extensively with multiple city and state agencies to coordinate and resolve environmental issues related to the project.

Dudek also monitored the project from the biological construction perspective, ensuring construction crews avoided the area’s sensitive plant and animal species. In addition, Dudek’s biological construction monitors were responsible for the mitigation and report program, which included federal and state permit compliance as well as the implementation of the contractor education and stormwater pollution prevention programs.
