Designing and Constructing Non-Potable Water Distribution System

Challenge: With the design of a non-potable water distribution system, the Yucaipa Valley Water District needed to identify whether the proposed reduction in and change to the wastewater quality discharged into a creek would be feasible.

Project Scope: Dudek provided environmental and engineering services including preparing an environmental impact report and related surveys to determine the viability of the district’s new water plans.

Resolution: After the district proposed to change and lower its discharge at San Timoteo Creek, Dudek conducted numerous hydrology and water use studies to identify the amount of discharge necessary to maintain existing riparian conditions in the creek. Specific services provided include:
  • Preparing an environmental impact report and environmental impact statement for CEQA/NEPA
  • Biological surveys of vegetation mapping, wetlands delineation, wildlife surveys and rare plant surveys
  • Focused surveys examining state- and federally-listed species
  • Vegetation mapping and wetlands delineation
  • Wetlands and habitat impacts
  • Wetlands permitting
  • Resource agency coordination
  • 3D simulations of the completed project

As this project required compliance with the Santa Ana Regional Water Quality Control Board Basin Plan, Dudek also conducted several public hearings to discuss the proposal.
