Upgrading Wastewater Facilities to Accommodate Growing Population

Challenge: As one of Southern California’s fastest growing cities, the City of Coachella needed to upgrade its wastewater facilities.

Project Scope: Dudek designed modifications to and managed the construction of wastewater treatment plant enhancements.

Resolution: The city's Coachella Sanitary District, which recently experienced a major increase in its customer base, turned to Dudek for help in modifying its wastewater treatment facilities. Dudek, which serves as resident engineer on a variety of city projects for more than five years, provided services including:
  • Disinfection system design to enhance the existing facility
  • Entertainment District trunk sewer design – approximately 3.5 miles of 24 and 36 inch diameter sewer pipe
  • Entertainment District Pump Station at Avenue 52 design – expandable life station with approximately 1,800 feet of forcemain, which can accommodate current 5,000 gpm to more than 15,000 gpm
  • Avenue 54 Wastewater Treatment Plant expansion design – a 3.0 MGD expansion to existing plant
  • Design of on-site modifications and rehabilitation of existing wastewater treatment plant processes
  • Construction management for Entertainment District trunk sewer, Avenue 52 pump station and wastewater treatment plant modifications
  • Reports and studies in support of wastewater treatment plant including annual biosolids reports to various government agencies

As of result of Dudek’s innovative designs and on-site management, Coachella Sanitary District can meet its customers’ needs today and in the future.
