Managing Pipeline Construction for San Diego County Water Authority

Challenge: To meet the water needs of its growing customer base, San Diego County Water Authority (SDCWA) needed to construct 29,000 feet of new piping.

Project Scope: Dudek provided a range of pre-construction, construction management and inspection services in support of this large-scale project.

Resolution: With approximately 15,000 feet of 78-inch diameter and 14,000 feet of 48-inch diameter welded steel pipe to construct and bury, SDCWA turned to Dudek for assistance. Dudek’s management and resident engineering teams provided construction and inspection services as well as environmental support, surveying and visual aid creation for:

  • Construction and installation of cement mortar lined, dielectric coated piping
  • Graded and improved access roads
  • Aqueduct connections and raw water turnout structure
  • Tunnel construction at existing aqueduct alignment
  • Removal and reconstruction of an existing 30-inch outfall sewer
  • Drainage and erosion control improvements

As a result of the successful completion of this project, SDCWA continues to deliver a safe, reliable and low-cost water supply to its customers.
