AEP Honors Dudek for Public Utilities Commission Work

Prestigious Industry Association’s San Diego Chapter Recognizes Firm for Creative Approach to Environmental Analysis Preparation on SDG&E Project

Encinitas, Calif. – October 11, 2005 – Dudek, a leading Southern California engineering and environmental consulting firm, today announced it received the 2005 “Outstanding Environmental Analysis Document” honors from the Association of Environmental Professionals’ San Diego Chapter. The firm, teamed with California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), was recognized for a creatively-approached environmental impact report that analyzed potential implications of a proposed SDG&E power purchase agreement transmission project.

This project, involving the construction of two new 230 kV electric transmission lines with overhead and underground segments, would connect two sets of substations in San Diego County. Before construction could begin, CPUC turned to Dudek to analyze potential environmental impacts and report its findings. This environmental impact report – prepared from studies conducted over a 10 month period – addressed issues such as air quality, biological resources, hydrology and water use, public health and safety, transportation and traffic, and visual resources. With this report in hand, SDG&E is prepared to take necessary mitigation measures to minimize environmental impacts.

“We’re honored that the environmental community continues to recognize Dudek for the innovative solutions we employ when addressing the complex and challenging needs of our clients,” said John Porteous, Dudek’s project manager.

The judges selected Dudek’s environmental impact report based on several criteria including:

  • Clarity of Organization – Logic and comprehension
  • Economy of Language – Concise, direct and to the point
  • Completeness – Adequate, reliable and thorough presentation of documentation and data
  • Adequacy of Summary – Concise and salient Originality – Unique approach to analysis and data presentation
  • Clarity of Writing – Readable by the public, decision-makers and professionals alike
  • Legal Adequacy – Substantial conformance to CEQA guidelines and current case law
