Dudek Engineer's Water Quality Improvement Article Published in Prestigious e-Journal AWWA

Encinitas, Calif. – February 6, 2007 – Dudek engineer Maria Schneider has co-authored a technical paper addressing water quality issues. The paper, “Magnetic Ion Exchange for the Removal of Disinfection By-Product Precursors: Pilot Plant Findings,” has been published in the February 2006 issue of the American Water Works Association technical publication e-Journal AWWA.

“In light of new stringent disinfection by-product (DBP) regulations, greater emphasis is being placed on technologies that can remove DBP precursors from water prior to disinfection,” said Schneider. “Our article discusses one such process – magnetic ion exchange (MIEX) – that has been shown to be effective in removing certain contaminants from water.” Detailing a pilot plant program implemented at four water treatment plants nationwide, the MIEX resin removed a substantial amount of DBP precursors, ultimately improving water quality.

Schneider’s co-authors are Philip C. Singer, Jessica Edwards-Brandt and George C. Budd.
