Encinitas, Calif. – February 2, 2009 – Joe Monaco and Soma Bhadra of Dudek will speak about the Carlsbad seawater desalination plant during the California Water Reuse Conference to be held in San Diego March 7 - 10.
Joe is a senior environmental planner and managed the lengthy and complex environmental permitting process for the plant. Soma is an engineering project manager and specialist in desalination techniques.
The Carlsbad seawater desalination plant is the West Coast's largest such plant and will provide 50 million gallons a day of potable water when it goes on-line in 2011.
The environmental permitting process for the Carlsbad plant set the standard for many key issues for subsequent California seawater desal plants. Key enviornmental issues addressed during the permitting process included: population growth related to additional local water supply; salinity; carbon emissions and operational impact marine organisms.
Joe Monaco is currently managing the environmental permitting process for a proposed seawater desal plant to be located in Huntington Beach, CA.
